LINDA CHERYL HELLE, the second daughter of Gail and Mary Bernice (Barler) Helle, always wanted to be able to do the things her dad could do. One time when her parents were painting the living room she observed her dad use a power drill with an attachment to mix the paint. Wanting to be of help, the next morning Linda got up early and, as everyone slept. she started to mix the paint with the drill. "That drill got away so fast I ended up with paint all over. Mom was rather unhappy, to say the least, but I think Dad was just a little proud that I was trying to imitate him," she recalls.
Linda was so anxious to see her new baby brother that the day he was to be brought home, she left school early. went to the hospital and was sitting in the back seat of the car waiting for Bob and her parents. Bob has always held a special place in her heart. She remembers well her father's love of family. He always taught her love of country and love of God, too.
Linda first married at age seventeen and was divorced before the birth of her first child:
KATHERINE JEANNE FRECCHIO, 17g
b. 13 Nov 1960; Ottawa, IL
d. 18 Feb 1962; Ottawa, IL
br. St. Columba Cemetery; Ottawa, IL
Kathy had been sick only two days with a flu which other family members had contracted, and she was put into the hospital and died the next day despite the efforts of four doctors. At the time the doctors called the illness pneumonia only because they needed an explanation on the death certificate. Since then, an illness called Reye Syndrome has been identified and is more probably the cause of Kathy's death. Linda expresses well what those who have lost an infant feel, people who lose children are expected to snap out of it more quickly than other losses.. . most people have very little understanding of how really devastating a loss people who lose children really go through."
In 1963 Linda married EDWARD JOHN PARTAK, a first generation American, his father having been born in Czechoslovakia. His mother's grandfather immigrated to the United States about the time Frederick and Katharine (Krauser) Helle immigrated. Ed is a graduate of Joliet High School and served in the United States Navy. He is employed byCaterpillar Tractor Co. in Joliet. Illinois.
Linda and Ed have two daughters:
SUSIE MARIE "SUE" PARTAK, 17g
b. 23 Sept 1963; Ottawa, IL
KAREN LYNN PARTAK, 17g
b. 12 May 1967; Ottawa, IL
In 1982 Linda started a new job; Court Clerk to the Chief Judge. Her greatest challenge has been to raise children during the violent sixties, the drug crazed seventies and seeing an adult and teen-age daughter bloom into very nice, well-adjusted people. "This has been my greatest pleasure and most important accomplishment."
Oct 2005 Linda left us to spend eternity with her loved ones who had went ahead.
