FARMINGTON, IL - Gordon Wayne Helle, 80, of St. Louis and formerly of Farmington passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2013, joining his best friend and savior Jesus Christ.
Gordon, born on Sept. 13, 1932, was the oldest son of Delbert and Nellie (Hayes) Helle. He married Viola Janet Rock on Sept. 30, 1951. She survives.
He is also survived by his sons, Raymond (Tammy) Helle of St. Louis, Mo., and Revs. Paul and Sue Helle of Evanston, Ill.; four grandchildren, Andy, Beth, Gordon and Tiffany; and seven great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers Maurie (Wendy) Helle of Phoenix, Ariz., Dwight (Joyce) Helle of Farmington, Ill.; sisters Adajune (Bill) Parker of Newark, Ohio, and Joann (Ray) Young of Cuba, Ill.; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Phyllis Helle, brothers Lawrence and Verle Helle and his parents.
Gordon was retired from his own business, building wooden toy guns, reflective of his long history in the wood-products industry as a sawmill operator, manufacturer, logger and woodcutter.
He was a member of Gideon International and had been a member of the Farmington Rotary Club for many years.
He was known for his great knowledge of the Bible and his devotion to his church and family.
